In its 37th year, the Mill Valley Film Festival runs from October 2 – 12 showcasing over 200 filmmakers representing over 50 countries. Regarded as the filmmakers’ festival, they boast an impressive track record for launching new films and careers of filmmakers as well.

Over 60,000 movie goers visit the festival every year. There are two opening night films this year. The Homesman, a literal anti-western, stars Hillary Swank as a spinster and Jones (who also directed) as a claim jumper escorting three women eastward. Men, Woman and Children follows a group of teenagers and their parents navigating through life.
