The Puyallup Fair starts this Friday September 10th.   I’m sure you’re already salivating at the thought of Carmel Apples, Cotton Candy and Elephant Ears. But before you get dessert be certain not to miss the main course…  Turkey Legs and BBQ Sandwiches from Young Life! This is the 29th year Young Life has been at the Puyallup Fair… plenty of time to perfect their special recipe.  Proceeds from the stand benefit area Young Life Clubs.

This year Young Life is using Shiftboard to schedule volunteers at the booth.  Volunteers simply register and once approved, begin selecting the shifts they can attend.  Young Life leaders and coordinators are thrilled that this years scheduling is all online.  Hours normally spent making phone calls are now spent focusing on the actual event.   When you work with high school and college students there are lots of last minute changes.  A student may forget they have soccer practice or can’t get a ride to help out.  Using Shiftboard, volunteers can even unconfirm shifts from their phone.  If somebody cancels the manager gets an email notification while another volunteer can immediately sign up for the open shift.

Shiftboard gives these scheduling managers more time to enjoy the fair; the real-time calendar provides access to message and communicate 24/7. Managers can even text their volunteers when the stand lines are getting long and more help is needed.  Don’t worry, these volunteers are trained BBQ professionals, they will definitely wash their hands after visiting “Piglet Palace”.

See you at the fair!
