Registration: SXSW Shiftboard
SXSW needs volunteers for two different types of crews: Conference or Production. All crew descriptions can be found on the volunteer website. You may only work on one type of crew during SXSW.
Conference Volunteers are eligible to work on up to 3 of the 30+ different Conference Crews, which operate throughout the 10-day event. Description of Conference Crews can be found here. Conference Volunteers are responsible for scheduling their own shifts, and must commit to a minimum of 30 hours in order to volunteer. Perks are earned based on the number of hours worked.
Production Volunteers are eligible to work on only one of the Production Crews, which operate operate throughout the 10-day event. A list of Production Crews can be found here. Most Production Volunteers will work a minimum of 5 shifts during the event to earn perks. Stage, Street Team, Special Venues and Outdoor Stage Crews are required to work a minimum of 3 shifts due to limited shift availability and times. In addition, there are also limits on which perks can be earned on these crews.
In exchange for the number of hours or shifts that you work, you will receive a perk to enjoy SXSW.
*Platinum Badges are reserved for returning volunteers. Returning volunteers that have never earned a Platinum Badge before and would like to do so in 2013, will need to have a Platinum Badge Nomination Form filled out by their prior year's crew chief during the Volunteer Call. Platinum Badges may also be acquired on specialty crews, which require that volunteers possess a proven skill-set such as photography, videography or other technical skills and have demonstrated, or provided proof of such skill.
** With the exception of the Music Stage, Special Venues Crews, and Street Team, all Production Crews are required to work at least 5 shifts. Music Stage, Special Venues Crews, and Street Team are only required to work a minimum of 3 shifts for a Music Badge due to the limited availability of shifts and flexibility in schedule and are not eligible for Gold Badges. Only returning volunteers are eligible to earn a Platinum Badge on a Production Crew. Platinum Badge requirements vary from crew to crew, so please see the Crew Descriptions Page for each crew's Platinum Badge opportunities.* NOTE: Production Volunteers are not eligible to earn Music Wristbands, Interactive or Film Badges.
